The Summer of Funz

Its time.   Time to shed the extra layers.  Mow the grass.   Buy some Summer Shandy (or Miller High Life).  And throw your hands in the air.

We're really excited about our summer schedule.   And we hope that you'll join us at the beach.   We'll be spending the summer in Sea Isle City at La Costa and the Lobster Loft.   And we'll be playing a few weddings for some of our good friends.

We expect to have Summer of Funz T-Shirts available in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

You stay classy - Planet earth.

A Year Ago.....

I decided that I should write this morning's post because I'm not sure that Christian has it in him.

For those of you that are new friends of the band, you've heard us talk (and sing) affectionately, about our friend Ron Rotelli.
Ron founded FunZaLuv with Christian back in 2005 and was taken from us, unexpectedly, a year ago.   Christian and Ron were an inseperable and unstoppable tandem.   Not because together they formed the most talented musical duo since Simon and Garfunkel but because they formed the most INCLUSIVE musical act since the E Street Band.   FunZaLuv has always been about far more than the two people standing on stage, but the 200 (or more) standing around them.   That's the way Ronnie built it.   That's the way Ronnie wanted it.   That's why YOU became a follower, a fan, a friend.

Ron is remembered as much for his hugs as his vocals.
He left behind a fantastic family and an inescapable legacy.

I was going to share the story here about how we decided to continue the good work that Ron started.   But I just deleted the entire paragraph.  Because that makes it about us.   Not about Ron.  Instead, I'll just share this.

Its not always easy to walk in the footsteps of great men.   Its something that I thought long and hard about before agreeing with Christian to join FunZaLuv.
At one point, I objected and said to Christian - "this is Ronnie's band".    Christian responded, "according to Ronnie, you're already in the band".

Aren't we all?   And isn't that the way Ronnie wanted it?

Miss you, Ron.

Scott

FZL in 2013

Hey Everyone,

I hope you are well and hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving! First and foremost, I want to thank you all for the incredible outpouring of support you have given to me over the past 3+ months. Whenever you hear about something tragic like this, you never think it is going to hit this close to home. Again, THANK YOU for your friendship and support.

Ron and I started FunZaLuv almost 7 years ago. Over that time, we steadily built up an incredible base of friends that helped make each and every one of our performances memorable. We were incredulous and grateful at the same time at the success we were able to realize. Many have asked if I am going to continue on. Until recently, I did not know the answer to that question. After a lot of soul searching. I can tell you, I am going to continue.

I have partnered up with lifelong friend, Scott Kinka, to continue the wonderful band Ron Rotelli and I worked so hard to create. Roughly 24 years ago, Scott and I formed the band Split Decision, a band that is still around today and as popular as ever. Scott, who was also a friend to Ron, partnered up with me on Ron's Tribute Night. Those of you who were fortunate enough to get a ticket know that he did an incredible job that -I'm certain- Ron was proud of. Scott is an incredible talent, showman, and person. Together, I am certain we will be able to bring the brand of fun you all have come to know from FunZaLuv, --lots of singin', dancin', and awesome memories.

In 2011, FunZaLuv was ranked #4 on the Philly HotList, -not bad since there were over 80 bands nominated. In August, 2012, we were well on our way to 1st place on the HotList. With Ron's passing, we did not quite make it, we finished 6th. In 2013, we're gonna take care of that "unfinished business" when the contest kicks off in July ;-)

Mark your calendars because we are going to kick things off on January 19th, 2013 at Da'Vinci's in Collegeville. From there, you will be able to see us at our usual venues: MaGerks, Mollys, the Village, Duffers, Tir Na Nog, and -of course- LaCosta in the Summer :-)

We're still populating the calendar, but you can see what we have lined up thus far on the website: www.FunZaLuv.com

Again, thank you for your friendship, support, and Luv :-) Stay well; Stay safe; and PLEASE hug your loved ones.

Yours Truly,

Christian

Summer 2012!!!!!!!

FZL Army!    We'll be at LaCosta in Sea Isle this Summer!   We've got a GREAT rotation of clubs, weddings, and private parties.   Be sure to catch us on 7/21 at DaVinci's!  It will be the ONLY local gig this summer.     If you are looking to book FZL for your next engagement, please know that we are booked nine months out.    Our listed schedule does not always accurately reflect our availability as many of our privates are not on the calendar :-)   We are blessed to have such a loyal following of friends.   Luv ya!!!!
